Adsorption of Sodium Alginate to Cu~(2+) in Disposal Water

The adsorption of sodium alginate to Cu2+ was studied. The results show th at sodium alginate has a good adsorption to Cu2+. The adsorbing equilibriu ms are reached within 10?minutes. The pH value of the solution has a great effe ct on the adsorption. When pH is about 60, the adsorbing effect is the best. T he removal rate of Cu2+ is relatied to the initial concentrate of Cu2+  in the solution. When the initial concentration of Cu2+ is 810?mg/L, t he removal rate of Cu2+ is about 81%, as to the lower concentration of Cu2+ (as low as 10?mg/L), the removal rate of Cu2+ is up to 995%. After the adsorption treatment with sodium alginate for two times, the concentr ation of copper ions remained in the solution is lower than the highest concentr ation of copper ions which are allowed to drain off in the national standard abo ut wastewater discharge.
