LINEAR PROGRAMMING-BASED SHORT-TERM GENERATION SCHEDULING FOR CASCADE HYDROPOWER SYSTEMS

A general model based on linear programming for short-term generation scheduling of cascade hydroelectric systems is proposed. The model considers not only the hydraulic and electric relations among hydropower plants, but also water arriving time and the rate of change of water flow. The effect of water head variation is eliminated by iteration. And the whole structure of the model will not be changed with adding new constraints because of the use of linearized approximation technique. The Karmarkar interior point algorithm is used to solve the programming problem, and calculation is accelerated. Test results show that the proposed model is correct and efficient. The model can also be applied to electricity market when water price is considered.
