Control Strategy from Phase Modulation to Power Generation for Pumped Storage Power Stations

A pumped storage power station has the capability of phase modulation. However, there is an unstable region in the complete characteristic curve of the pumped storage power unit, and it may result in failure of conversion of operating conditions. Besides, during fleet conversion, the unit will generate harmful reverse power, which may lead to the decline of voltage and frequency of the power grid. Based on the waterpower characteristics of pumped storage power units, the unit control sequence is researched and improved, so as to avoid the unstable region, improve the stability of unit operation and reduce the reverse power.
