A method for retrieving land surface temperature based on the split window algorithm with linear combination of two bands′ radiance

The split window method has been well applied to retrieval of sea surface temperature (SST). However, when this approach is applied to retrieving land surface temperature (LST), large error can be caused. In this paper, 51 species of 7 classes surfaces are collected to evaluate those errors. A new split window algorithm of linear combination of two bands′ radiance is proposed. This new method is less influenced by atmosphere perturbation and can reduce the error of LST less than 3K and that of SST less than 0.15K.
