The experimental research of tracking the hurricane with HF backscattering

There are two peaks in the spectrum of HF back-scatter from the ocean surface,which are called first-order Bragg lines.The research results show that the surface wind direction is associated with the relative intensities of the two first-order Bragg lines.Relying on the above property,the surface wind direction and path of the hurricane Wipha were observed by using the HF backscatter data of China Research Institute of Radiowave Propagation(CRIRP).Results are compared with the data obtained from the aerographic bureau and shown to be accurate as well.So,it's possible to use the HF backscatter technology in ocean surveillance.
