STUDY ON THE ATTRACTION EFFECT AND TECHNICAL APPLICATION OF SEX PHEROMONE OF POPLAR CLEARWING MOTH PARANTHRENE TABANIFORMS

This paper reports the application of sexual attractant of poplar clearwing moths. After 1984-1985 two year tests in 19174ha poplar artificial forest, the proportion of trap and kill was 73.1%. In Zhao Dong and Zhao Yuang experimental fields, the rate of the injured poplar descented from 2.0—9.3% to 0.5—3.5%. The effect of sexal attractant was determined, which was not harmful to natural enemies and beneficial insects. There is little residue of the attractant, and it does not contaminate the environment, as the amount of sexual attractant used is very little. This improved technology is not only safe to human beings and domestic animals but also very inexpensive, and has a noticeable economic benefit as well. It only costs 0.45—1.50 yuan/ha. This sexual attractant may be applied to forecast the pest occurrence and is an important measure in integrated control program. It is suggested that the sexual attractant be used as a new method for controlling the poplar clearwing moth. The use of this advanced technology opens up a new way for controlling the insects that attact tree.
