NUTRIENT CYCLING AND STABILITY OF SOIL FERTILITY IN LARCH PLANTATION IN THE EASTERN PART OF NORTHERN CHINA

Based on studies of the soil fertility and the processes of biological cycling of nutrient clements in larch plantation ecosystem, the potential soil degradation and unstability were revealed, and the mechanism and causes of soil degradation were analyzed according to the principles of biodiversity and the trait of nutrient cycling. Mean-while, the countermeasures against soil degradation were put forward. It is suggested that a large scale man-made coniferous pure stand with single tree speciesand simplified structure should be replaced by planting coniferous/boardlcaved mixed forests tree spccicsand multiple layers structure, or by many patches of different pure stands, and rotation among different trees should be adopted instead of coniferous cropping, in order? to sustain a long-term and stable soil fertility and forest productivity through the processes.
