A REPORT ON BIRD RESOURCE IN TUMUJIREGION, XING'AN LEAGUE, INNER MONGOLIA

A comprehensive investigation on fauna, distribution, ecology and migration ofbirds was carried out in Tumuji Region. Totally 132 species belonging to 40families, 16 orders were recorded, among which 95 species of non-passariformesand 37 species of passariformes were included. 120 species of migratory birdsincluding 55 species of summer migrants, 8 species of winter migrants and 57species of passing migrants were also found thar cover 90. 9% the whole. Wehave also discovered that 29 national protected species, 6 first ranked protectedand 23 seconde ranked protected live in this region. 5 species, Brant goose(Branta bernila), rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus), slaty-backed gull (Larusschistiagus), Saunder's gull (L. saundersi) and Oyter-catcher (Haematopus osstrale-gus) were firstly recored in Inner Mongolia. 81 species are included in the Sino-Japan Agreement for the Protection Migratory Birds and TheirEnvironment, and 21 species in the Sino-Australia Agreement for the Protectionof Migratory Birds and Their Environment. According to the investigation, wesuggest that grassland and wetland natural reserves should be founded for theprotection of rare bird species like red crowned crane and great bustard, ect..
