Estimation of Forest Biomass Based on Remote Sensing

Guo Qingxi, Zhang Feng(Northeast Forestry University, Harbin 150040, P. R. China)  
The multi-regression equation and neural network model were established based on TM imagery and 232 plots of forest inventory in southern side of Xiaoxing’an mountains for estimation of the forest biomass. 13 dependent variables were determined including environmental factors, biological factors and remote sensing to develop the regression equation. The R 2 is 0.712 5, which passed the correlation examination. Forest remote sensing provided a convenient method to derive multi-regression model relating imagery radiance and environmental factors to forest biomass, and a neural network was used to estimate the same sample data, which proved to have a much higher accuracy than regression analysis.
