Europe Birch’s Membrane System Changes under Low Temperature Menace in the Period of Seedling

Versus birch whose original producing area is in the region of warm climate in Europe was introduced to the other region with higher latitude and quite chilly climate. Its some physiological changes in cold-resistance were studied by comparing it with the local birch specie. The result shows that enzyme-recovery-system, including superoxide enzyme (SOD) and catalase (POD) activities, increased first and then decreased with temperature dropping, and the contents of MDA and water-soluble protein all increased. Though membrane permeability increased by a certain degree, it’s quite stable. The synthesized analysis indicates that the cold-resistance of European birch is slightly lower than that of the local birch.
