Studies have demonstrated that passeriformes birds can identify intraspecific alarm calls. But few studies on identification of alarm call between species were conducted. This papers developed a study to test whether the Great tit and Eurasian nuthatch could identify each other alarm calls by playback in Zuojia Nature Reserve in Jilin Province from 2013 to 2014.The results showed that the behavioral responses to interspecific alarm call and song playback differed significantly in the Great tit and Eurasian nuthatch. The behavioral responses to intraspecific alarm call and song playback also differed significantly in the two species.Great tit and Eurasian nuthatch responded to intraspecific/interspecific alarm calls by producing alarm calls, flying rapidly, shaking head and body. And the reaction intensity to alarm call is higher than songs. But the behavioral responses to interspecific alarm calls did not differ from intraspecific alarm calls. The study suggested that Great tit and Eurasian nuthatch are able to identify interspecific alarm calls.
