THE DIGITAL SECTION SYSTEM OF DIGITAL MAPPING TECHNIQUES

The Regional Geological Mapping System (RGMAP) developed by the China Geological Survey Bureau is a GIS system for digital geological mapping, which has significantly changed traditional geolo- gical survey. RGMAP is composed of two parts: Digital Route System and Digital Section System. Each of them contains two subsystems, that is, the Field Digital Capture Subsystem and the Digital Desktop Subsystem. We discuss mainly the Digital Section System in this paper. In the field, we can achieve completely digital section measurement by using the Digital Section System. The Digital Section System can automatically calculate bed thickness and create measured stratocolumns. This system greatly enhances the cartography techniques of geological section.
