SOME PROBLEMS OF ARCHEAN STRATA IN THE TAIHANG MOUNTAINS

This is a reply to comments in Journal of Stratigraphy on our report of the age of the Fuping Group.The ages of the Fuping Group proposed in their paper are up to interpretation.One of their ages is a Sm-Nd isochron age.Another is the age of an intrusive rock,and the third is the metamorphic age consistent with the intrusive.In fact,the detrial zircon age of the Wanzi Group they used was reset during the peak metamorphism due to hydrothermal fluid activities.The relationship between the Wanzi Group and Fuping Group in their spatial distribution is much closer than their relationship with the Neoarchean Wutai Group.The age of the Wanzi Group is unlikely Paleoproterozoic.The separation of the Honghe Formation from the Zanhuang Group and the renaming of this as the Paleoproterozoic Guandu Group is problematic too.The area where the Suojiazhuang Formation of the oldest Fuping Group was described is actually occupied by granitic intrusives.The granulites in this area are allochthonous rocks from the north.All of the stratigraphic sequences of the Fuping Group in the Chinese Stratigraphic Code have been modified and updated in the 1/50,000 regional geological survey.
