LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY AND SPATIAL VARIATION OF THE LOWER CARBONIFEROUS LIANXIAN FORMATIONIN,LIANZHOU,GUANGDONG PROVINCE

CHEN En;Guangdong Institute of Geological Survey;
The Lower Carboniferous Lianxian Formation in Lianzhou of Guangdong Province is mainly composed of dark gray,thick-bedded dolomitic limestone and dolostone that are richly fossiliferous.In this study,the spatial distribution of the Lianxian Formation was investigated using field survey and lithofacies data.The results show that dolostone is the dominant lithofacies in the central and northeastern parts of the Lianzhou area,whereas siliceous and shale facies becomes dominant in the northwestern part.The thickness of the Lianxian Formation decreases from the central part to the northeastern and northwestern parts of the Lianzhou area.These spatial patterns of the Lianxian Formation provide a basis for future investigation of this unit in the Lianzhou and neighboring area.
