A Research on an Environment-friendly Electrolyte for Magnesium Alloy Anodizing

An environment-friendly electrolyte free of chromate,phosphate and fluoride has been developed.The anodized films of magnesium alloy AZ31B,formed in 16 electrolytes containing different concentrations of NaOH,Na_2SiO_3,Na_2B_4O_7 but with constant amount of phytic acid,current density and processing time, are investigated.The research results show that the glossy and compact anodized film with high corrosion resistance and good adhesion to the substrate can be obtained in an electrolyte composed of NaOH 50 g/L,Na_2SiO_3 60 g/L,Na_2B_4O_7,40 g/L.Anodization of magnesium alloys in such an electrolyte is an environment-friendly process.
