Approach on web-based learning motivation mechanism

Web-based distance learning has become a very important informationized learning style.Owing to the lack of collective synchronous learning and tutor's monitoring,learning motivation has become an obstacle of conducting smoothly web-based learning to obtain higher quality.The author of this article makes a preliminary approach from the angle of learning psychology,on the impact of tutors,learning activities and learning environment upon distance learning motivations based on the experiences of web-based teaching practice and extensive investigation on some relative on-line courses.The author takes the view that inner force is the source of motivation for web-based distance learning.There exists cognitive inner force,self-improved inner force and subordinate inner force in distance learning.However,owing to features of distance learning and distance learners,there are different proportions for each item compared with those of traditional classroom learning.There are mainly three aspects which may affect external environment of distance learning motivations.For instance,self quality and activities on the part of distance tutors,especially their professional level,authoritativeness,participative format,feedback,organizing and coordination ability,etc.will influence the learners' learning motivation;distance learning activities will affect directly the learner's initiatives and learning outcome when the learners are participating in their learning;the factors of learning environment,learning media,learning style and learning community will all affect distance learning drives.
