Practice and approach on web-based learning support system

Among the five elements to ensure teaching quality of open and distance education, learning support is regarded as the key element for teaching quality assurance and important pillar for open and distance education. With the prevailing e-learning, there is necessity to explore the web-based learning support system and provide the students with individualized services comprehensively and actively in order to ensure the concept of people-oriented and learner-focus to be realized.The authors have tried through practice in constructing a web-based learning support system. They have penetrated learning support and services to the design, development and delivery of open and distance education courses and each academic and non-academic respect so as to provide more pluralistic knowledge assembly and much more variety of choices and individualized assistance.The authors have also introduced in this article the design and application state of the platform-typed network courseware of Computer Cultural Basis in Universities and in particular offered us an introduction of the functions for the web-based course platform as well as the teaching resources it provided. The authors have also made an analysis of its advantages and existing problems. On the basis of that, the authors presented to us the development and application of the on-line self-directed learning platform and introduced the main modules and their teaching functions of the platform.At the end of this article, the authors expounded and summarized the practices of the web-based learning support and services system through the support and services that the instructors and learners should acquire, content of on-line teaching resources and the way to organize, the effective utilization of resources for hardware and software and individualized services.
