INHERITANCE OF QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS IN THE SELF-CROSS AND BACKCROSS POPULATIONS OF GLYC1NE MAX × G. SOJA HYBRIDS

Interspecific crosses and backcrosses of soybeans were conducted to evaluated genetic parameters in backcross populations with different rate of wild germplasm introgression. The purpose of the attempt was to promote the utilization of wild germplasm in soybean breeding.With backcrossing, the "recombination spindles " became much wider, causing the linkage and pleiotropy effect to be weakened gradually. Theoretically, soybean breeders would likely to obtain required associations of wild and cultivated traits witout much hindrance caused by reduced recombination between wild and cultivated soybean chromosomes. It was proved that the suitable size of a backcross population was n=8 and m=10-15 (n means family numbers in F 1 generation and m means plant numbers of each family in F 2 generation). If quantitative traits were ignored, ninety or one hundred plants would be enough for a BC 0F 2 population to contain nearly most of the genetic diversity. In addition, the so called" dynamic correlation" was observed be tween traits of BC 0, BC 1 and BC 2 populations.Among content of five fatty acid and protein, only a negative correlation was observed between oleic acid and protein content. The result suggested that the negative correlation between oil and protein content should be caused mainly by the above correlation. Therefore, the ratio between C 18:1 and C 18:2 couid be used as an index of high oil content. It seemed to be very hard to obtain lines with both high protein and high oil content in the population of interspecific hybrids.

About 80% of the accessions had the Tia allele and only one was identified as having the Tic allele. About 47% of the accessions had the Spia allele and only one had neither Spla nor Splb. According to the geographical distribution of Tia allele frequencies, 8 regions were divided in China.
