Study of properties of ceramic coating formed by micro-arc oxidation

Microarc oxidation is a newly developed technology for the formation of ceramic coatings on metal surface such as aluminum, magnesium and titanium. Ceramic coatings were prepared on surface of aluminum and LY12 aluminum alloy by means of microarc oxidation. Formula for the calculation of thickness of the ceramic coatings obtained was deduced. Ceramic coatings were studied in hardness, porosity, corrosion resistance, electric insulation and stability to heat. The results show that ceramic coatings obtained have excellent properties mentioned above, and have bright prospect in application. 
