Application of hydroxy Fe-Al pillared bentonite to treatment of wastewater containing chromium

A hydroxy Fe-Al pillared bentonite was prepared with Na-based bentonite as raw material and the pillaring agent previously obtained using FeCl3,AlCl3,and Na2CO3. The treatment effect of the hydroxy Fe-Al pillared bentonite as flocculating agent on Cr(VI) -containing wastewater was studied. The results showed that the hydroxy Fe-Al pillared bentonite has good Cr(VI) removal efficiency,and its dosage,pH and agitation time have obvious effects on the adsorption of Cr(VI) . The effect of the dosage of hydroxy Fe-Al pillared bentonite is most significant. The optimal experimental conditions were obtained by orthogonal test as follows:dosage of flocculating agent 15 g/L,pH 4,and agitation time 45 min. The removal efficiency of Cr(VI) was up to 99.35%.
