EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF FLAME INSTABILITY INDUCED

Using high-speed schlieren photography technique and pressure measurement method,an experiment of interaction between the CH_4/air premixed flame and the cuneiforms obstacle in a horizontal combustion tube was performed.The time-sequence photographs of the flame instability induced by the obstacle and the pressure traces on the leeward exterior of the obstacle were recorded.The experimental results indicate that the flame front is laminar flow state when it travels the velvet surface contract channels.After the flame turn over obstacle,it becomes instable and deformed due to the Helmholtz instability,Taylor instability and Richtmyer-Meshkov instability.Simultaneously,turbulence occurs due to the wall shear flow and development of the instabilities.Finally,the origin and development of the instabilities and the formation mechanism of turbulence were discussed in detail based on the experimental results.
