Investigation on Characteristics of Cavity Form and Drag for Underwater High-speed Projectile

Based on single-fluid variable-density mixture model of Rayleigh-Plesset equation,natural multi-phase cavitating flow model was presented.Cavitation flow around underwater high-speed projectile was investigated through numerical simulation using Fluent 6.0.The supercavity form and drag coefficient of four kinds of projectile model under high-speed were calculated,and the effects of projectile cavitator diameter,the slenderness ratio,which represents the ratio of length to diameter and cavitation number on the characteristics of supercavity form and drag were analyzed.Simulation results show that the diameter and length of supercavity decrease with the increase of cavitation number,the effect of cavitator diameter on the drag of projectile is remarkable,and a smaller drag coefficient can be obtained by increasing the slenderness ratio of the projectile.
