CRUST STRESS IN NORTHEASTERN REGION OF CHINA

Rao Lixun;Wang Jin;Li Yarong Seismological Institute of Lanzhou, 73000 Lanzhou
The distribution of crust stress field in the northeastern region of China was reported in this paper. It was obtained from the mean mechanism solutions of some earthquakes in which the directions of principal compressive stresses are NE70°in the south part, NE100°in the middle part and NE58°in the north part of northeastern region. Most of elevation angles of P and T axes of mechanisms of shallow earthquakes are less than 30°degree. It represents that the horizontal compressive stress plaies dominant role for occurring of earthquakes in the Northeastern region of China. The slip condition of faults in the area was also discussed based on the results of mechanisms of earthquake focuses.
