Distinguish of original fungi of Hongqu with high performance capillary electrophoresis

Objective: To establish a new method to identify original fungi of Chinese traditional medicine: Hongqu . Methods: The capillary zone electrophoresis method was used. The buffer used for protein separation was 20 mmol/L borate of pH 9.11. Proteins were monitored at 214 nm, voltage at 20 kV and pressure injection 5 s. The temperature of the capillary during electrophoresis was kept constant at 25℃. Results: The number of peaks and the contents either extracellular proteins of Monascus or intracellular proteins was obviously different, we could distinguish easily Monascus by the fingerprint peaks within 4 and 10 minutes either of extracellular proteins or of intracellular proteins. The results were consistent with morphologic study and analysis with scanning electron microscope. Conclusion: HPCE assay technique can classify and identify of Monascus fungi.
