A METHOD OF PREDICTING,GROUND MOTION PARAMETERS FOR REGIONS WITH POOR GROUND MOTION DATA

In this paper, a method of predicting ground motion parameters for regions with poor ground motion data is suggested. The method is based on the following considerations: ( 1 ) there are sufficient intensity attenuation data in the region with poor ground motion data, and sufficient data of berth intensity and ground motion attenuations for reference region; ( 2 ) functional relationship between intensity and ground motion holds only when earthquake magnitudes are the same. The suggested method is examined for pairs of regions with known attenuation laws of the intensity and ground motion. The method can be useful for estimation of ground motion parameters for aseismic design of important projects as well as for preparing maps of design ground motion parameters for aseismic codes.
