A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD FOR NEAR-FIELD WAVE MOTION IN HETEROGENEOUS MATERIALS

A Finite element technique with lumped mass formulation has been develo- ped on the basis of the assumption of finite difference technique.An efficient method obtained by combining this technique with the method to handle the artificial boundary is then systematically discussed for finding the wave field near a seismic source and/or laterally heterogeneous region in a horizontally homogeneous,elastic,layered half-space.The practical procedures to realize this method are presented for use.
