UPPER BOUND ESTIMATION OF SEISMIC RESPONSES OF RESERVOIR

The rigidity distribution of the gravity dam is usually determined with many difficulties because of complication of its geometry and the connection with the adjacent portion of the reservoir, as well as the action of hydrodynamic pressure.In this paper, an approach is suggested to evaluate the upper bound responses of the seismic loads, shearing forces and bending moments under the action of horizontal earthquake with the help of the influence matrix of hydrodynamic pressure and the substitution of the most unfavourable possible deformation curves for the normal modes under the condition of unknown rigidity distribution.
