EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON OF THE PROPERTIES OF FRICTION AND MILD STEEL YIELDING ENERGY DISSIPATORS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON REDUCING VIBRATION OF STRUCTURE UNDER EARTHQUAKES

In this paper,one hundred or more energy dissipators,which are divided into friction and mild steel yielding types including normal friction and Pall friction energy dissipators and X shape and triangular steel plate yielding energy dissipators are tested by the static recycle loading and fatigue experiment and their hysteretic and low cycle fatigue properties are further studied and made a comparison. Then,the effects of above four kinds of energy dissipators on reducing vibration of one story shear-type steel frame respectively under El Centre,Taft and Tianjin earthquakes are investigated and made a comparison by shaking table tests. Based on the experimental results the restoring force models of above four kinds of energy dissipators are established and the parameters in the models are determined.
