Research on methods for establishing FEM model of buried pipelines

ZHAO Lin, FENG Qi-min (Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China; Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Seismological Bureau, Harbin 150080, China)  
The research history of seismic responses of buried pipelines is retrospected, and the importance to explore the modeling method for buried pipelines with FEM is emphasized. For several modeling methods, their characteristics and applicable conditions are separately illustrated. Based on the above work,the model of the interaction of pipelines with soil, which is not only applicable to analyse the buckling of buried pipelines, but also able to simulate the process from the development of stress and strain at the surface of pipes to the damage to the node of pipelines, is presented.
