Earthquake response analysis of nonlinear impacts for simply supported viaduct

In this paper, the phenomenon of damage to buildings due to pounding is concisely analysed.The outcomings and developments of impact research are illustrated. The mechanical characteristics of nonlinear pounding element are studied and qualitative analysis of the influence of width at expansion joints and one or two side(s) pounding on impact earthquake response are made by using NASTRAN structural program. Many useful results are achieved.
