A comprehensive method for estimating and comparing the damage potential of strong ground motion

How to evaluate the damage potential of the ground motion is one of the significant problems in the area of earthquake engineering. In this paper an investigation on damage potential of strong ground motion is presented. For this purpose, various ground motion parameters are used and classified into two parts: the parameters directly readout from the ground motion records of their own and the parameters, which are calculated from the response of structure. As a result, a comprehensive method for estimating the damage potential of strong ground motion is recommended and that can be considered as one of the possible ways in estimating the damage potential of strong ground motion at present.
