Calculation of frequency and loss factor of composite sandwich structures

Frequency and loss factor are two important indices of dynamic property of composite structures,in which the viscoelastic material is sandwiched between the upper layer and the lower layer. In this paper, we describe the frequency-dependent property of viscoelastic materials using complex modulus model, and based on NASTRAN, iterative modal strain energy method and iterative complex eigenvalue method are presented to solve the frequency and loss factor of sandwich structures. These two methods are effective and exact for the large-scale complex composite sandwich structures. As an example of sandwich beams, theoretical closed-form solution and numerical solution are studied comparatively, and an optimization analysis is conducted.
