Finite element analysis of Jiangkou reservoir-induced earthquake

An earthquake in Wulong possibly induced by Jiangkou reservoir impounding is analyzed by using finite element method.When the Jiangkou reservoir is analyzed,its different breadth cases and a zone of fracture going through its bottom are considered,and the maximal shear stress in the reservoir bottom rock is shown.The analysis results are as follows: it is very possible that the reservoir bottom rock will be destroyed,the reservoir-induced earthquake is likely to be induced,and the greatest earthquake magnitude is about 5.
