Analysis of differences between two types of mass matrixes in beam modal analysis

Consistent mass matrix and lumped mass matrixes are the common types of mass matrixes in structural dynamic analysis.In order to evaluate their influences on structural frequencies,the differences between the consistent mass matrix and the lumped mass matrix of the beam element are divided into four parts.The influence degrees of each part on total frequency differences between the two types of mass matrixes are discussed by some numerical examples.It is shown that the influences of the rotating inertia and the coupling between the element's degree of freedom are the main parts of the differences between consistent and lumped mass matrixes in beam modal analysis.
