Building damage in Dujiangyan during M8.0 Wenchuan earthquake

The damage to 1 005 buildings in Dujiangyan during Wenchuan earthquake was analyzed by statistical method.The results indicate that the buildings seismically designed attain the desired seismic fortification object;their damage is slighter than that of the buildings not seismically designed.Among the buildings seismically designed,the seismic capacity of RC frame buildings is stronger than that of brick buildings;the damage to high-rise buildings and 2~3 storeyed buildings is slighter than that to multistory buildings.The author compared the residences with the public engineerings(school and hospital buildings).The results show that the public engineerings were damaged more seriously.
