Research on practical design method using liquid viscous damper passive energy dissipation in buildings

This paper describes the conformation,the mechanical model and the passive energy dissipation basic principle of liquid viscous dampers.Benchmark common model is used as an analysis model,and the seismic response analysis with or without control is carried out using FEA with ANSYS and SAP2000.The influence of mass,stiffness and damping,configuration and brace,velocity exponent and damping coefficient,number and location of LVD are researched.The practical design method of LVD is summarized combining with present seismic code home and abroad.It is demonstrated from the simulation results that LVD can reduce the structure response effectively,and that aforementioned method is convenient and feasible.The new seismic design code is allowed to use passive energy dissipation method to reduce the seismic responses of main structure,and the application of LVD in structure is an inevitable trend in the future.
