EFFECT OF SOLID PHASE DEFORMATION AND OTHER FACTORS ONWAVE PROPAGATION IN SATURATED SOIL LAYER

Abstract Taking account of the deformability of soil skeleton having elastic, elasto - plastic or nonlinear constitutive relation, a system of differential equations governing the sol- id - liquid dynamdc interaction is established. The finite difference method is used to ob- tain numerical solutions for saturated soil layers overlaid by a dry layer under various pressure, velocity, and earthquake loading onditions . Comparative computatinns are made for those cases with and without deformability of soil skeleton, and for defbrroable soil with different permeability, porosity, constitutive relation, boundary conditions etc . . Some new trends and conclusions are discovered which are of significance in engineering seismnlogy and earthquake engineering.
