A New Bus-Bar Protection Based on Current Travelling Waves and Wavelet Transform(1)——Basic Principle and Criterion

The most widely useful bus protection for high voltage power network is high impedance differential protection.Although it can meet the essential requirements,its shortcomings,such as influence of load current,saturation of current transformers,fault resistance,especially the fault current,flowing from bus to line during an internal fault,should be taken carefully in consideration.In order to improve operation speed and sensitivity of bus bar protective relaying,a new bus bar relaying principle based on fault generated current travelling waves is proposed.The corresponding criterion for one and a half breaker model is presented according to detail analysis on internal fault,external fault and influence factors.Theoretical analysis illustrate that bus bar protection based on current travelling waves have properties such as fast operating time,high sensitivity,simplicity and high reliability.
