A Hybrid Fuzzy and PID Control Method for Static Var Compensation

In order to overcome the poor adaptability of conventional PID control method which depends on precise mathematical model of the control object, control strategies combining conventional PID with other intelligent controlling algorithm for improving the performance become one hotspot recently. In this paper, a kind of control algorithm called fuzzy-PID double mode control method is designed which used into the Static Var Compensation(SVC) system. The compensating principle is briefly analyzed in the paper. The Fuzzy-PID control synthesizes the virtue of both the fuzzy and the PID which can be switched between the two control mode according to the given error threshold. In this hybrid control method, the fuzzy control is used for quickly adjusting the dynamic process and the PID control for accurately accommodating the static process. Experimental results satisfactorily verified that the proposed control strategy has better adaptability and high robustness. It reveals preferable control precision and faster dynamic response when applied to the experimental prototype.
