An Investigation on the Unnecessary of Harmonic and Reactive Current Detection for Active Power Filters(Part II)——Simulation and Experiment

Based on the conclusion that it is unnecessary to detect the harmonic and reactive current in classical active power filters(APF),a direct AC main current control scheme is presented in the paper. It does not require the harmonic and reactive currents to be sensed and computed, reserves the DC capacitor voltage controller and current controller used in the classical APF, and provides a low-cost but high-performance solution for APF control. The equivalent relations between the proposed scheme and the classical scheme are obtained. The dynamic performances of the APF based on the two schemes are compared by means of simulation. The simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed scheme. A prototype is developed to verify the performance of the proposed APF in advance and all conclusions in Part I of the paper are well supported.
