Pulse Charging Technique for the Power VRLA Battery Under Partial State of Charge and 100% Deepth of Discharge

Based on operation features and the charging principle of valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries, a novel pulse charging technique is presented and a novel intelligent charger was developed in the lab, which can generate and program certain positive/negative pulses. Under the partial state of charge (PSOC) condition, the experiments for 100% depth of discharge were carried out by using different charging algorithms. Recycling, SEM and elctrode elctrical potential measurements are carried out in the experiments. The experimental results show that the re-cycle lifetime of the power VRLA battery can be greatly prolonged by using the presented pulse charging algorithm when it suffers PSOC. And it has a promising recovery effect for the disabled batteries.
