Optimal Control of Energy Management in Novel Electric Vehicles With Dual-Source Energy Storage System

The novel battery-ultracapacitor dual energy storage system is the hotspot of the pure electric vehicles (PEV) research. And how to effectively split the power between the batteries and the ultra-capacitors to obtain good economy and acceleration performance is the most crucial problem. Based on the analysis of powers in energy storage system, the resistance powers during the vehicle’s running and the constraints the energy storage system should obey, the mathematical model of energy management system is firstly established, whose objective functions are energy consumption ratio and acceleration times. Then, four main operation modes of the dual-source energy storage system are presented. In the following, energy management controller based fuzzy logic is designed and implemented in ADVISOR software. The fuzzy controller takes the mamdani structure and consists of three inputs and single output. Finally, compared to the look-up strategy, lots of simulations are carried on. The results show that, the proposed fuzzy energy management controller can more effectively split the powers in dual-sources energy storage system, and attain a better acceleration performance and economic performance.
