New Fault Region Location Scheme in Distribution System With DGs

A new fault locating method based on the fault current characteristic and the DG distribution network structure is proposed to locate the fault region for distribution networks with distributed generators. The IED can determine the direction of fault current using the branches current composite magnitude value comparison. Fault directions determined by the IEDs located at different points of the network are combined to determine the faulted relevance region. A fault direction identification technique, which is realized with the adaptive fault relevance region locating matrix algorithm, was developed for relay. Case study on medium-voltage distribution system with DG through Matlab, the performance of this new fault location method is reported.
