Research on Networked AGC System Based on Delay Model Predictive Control Algorithm

Random communication delay and packet loss problems make networked automatic generation control(AGC) system become difficulty. A networked AGC system based on delay model predictive control(MPC) is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the power system delay dynamic state equation that considered communication delay is used as the MPC predictive model and the optimal weighting algorithm is applied to predict the communication delay. The paper also adds the incremental value of predictive outputs to the rolling optimization goals, which reduces unnecessary adjustment times of the unit. Besides utilizing MPC controller's multi-steps predictive function, a buffer is installed on the actuator of the unit, which stores the control variables' prediction sequences as backup suboptimal control signal when the WAN occasional packets lost. Through the simulation analysis of the networked AGC system of two-area interconnected grid, the results show that the proposed control method can ensure the network AGC system perform excellent dynamic response. And it is also indicated that the method has good adaptability and strong robustness to the communication delay variation.
