Permanent Magnet Eddy Current Loss and Its Influence of High Power Density Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

Permanent magnet(PM) eddy current loss is one of the most important thermal demagnetization factors in high power density permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSMs), which is very important to the safe and reliable operation of PMSMs. Combining with the theoretical analysis, this paper uses three dimensional(3D) finite element method(FEM) analyzes each origin caused PM eddy current loss and the distribution of PM eddy current loss. This paper proposes a model of eddy current density line to make the PM eddy current loss distribution be easy to understand. The average PM eddy current of each block data and the average PM eddy current loss of the whole PM data are both imported to the 3D thermal field and compares with the experiment, illustrating the important of PM eddy current loss distribution to the calculation of the maximum temperature rising of PM. To be more suitable to engineering calculation, the influence of PM eddy current loss distribution characteristics in each direction to temperature rising distribution is investigated to conclude a relatively fast, simple and accuracy method to calculate the maximum temperature rising of PM.
