A New Algorithm for Discrimination Inrush Current of Transformer Based on the Characteristics of the Waveform

A simple method of discrimination between inrush current and internal fault current of transformer is proposed.The underlying idea of the proposed scheme is to discriminate inrush current and internal fault current according to the fact that area value between the curve of inrush current at the dead angle and the time axis is much smaller than that of fault current or tends to zero in one given moving data window.The discrimination criteria is given by the area value mention above.The simulation results are presented to show the much obvious characteristics and much accurate discrimination of the proposed scheme.
