THE APPLICATION OF DIWA THEORY IN THE SEARCH FOR OIL

WEI Zhouling (Changsha Institute of Geotectonics Academia Sinica)
Diwa theory holds that the crust consists of many tectonic elements. Any tectonic element has underwent a number of geotectonic development stages. Every geotectonic development stage possesses its own metallogenic specialization. A later geotectonic development stage not only possesses ore deposits peculiar to itself, but also can inherit the remains of the ore deposits of its predecessors, i. e. it possesses the inheritance of minerals. At the same time the geological processes of a later geotectonic development stage can change the ore deposits of a preceding stage and turn them into polygenetic compound ore deposits. These concepts are the theoretical bases of diwa theory in the search for minerals including oil and gas.Practice proves that diwa theory is of great importance in analysing the conditions of oil formation and determining the application of diwa theory in the search for oil and gas and can be summarized as. (1) identifying tectonic nature; (2) looking for depression; (3) analysing formation; (4) studying structure; and (5) synthetic appraisal. The above-mentioned five respects are an organic whole. The consideration of the above-mentioned contents in making an oil-gas appraisal of an area can correctly come to a reasonable conclusion.
