PALEOECOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE EARLY TERTIARY OIL-BEARING SEDIMENTARY FORMATION IN THE DONGPU DEPRES SION,NORTH CHINA DIWA REGION

LI Haoming (Changsha Institute of Geotectonics, Academia Sinica)
The Dongpu Depression is a basin in the southern part of North China Plain, and was formed in the late diwa stage (last phase of Mesozoic). The early Tertiary formation is characterized by salt and gypsum-bearing mudstone, sandstone and oil shale. It is a typical example of diwa-type oil bearing sedimentary formation in eastern China. The study of body fossils, trace fossils, sediment ation and geochemistry indicates that the early Tertiary was dominantly nonmarine in the Dongpu Depression and a short-term transgression occurred in the region. It is also shown that the Dongpu Depression was a near-sea diwa basin at a continental margin.
