MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DEEP EARTH ROCKS AND THEIR ROLES IN THE INVESTIGATION OF CONTINENTAL DEFORMATION PROCESSES

On the basis of dealing with the fundamental models of the rock rheology associated with the mechanical properties of deep Earth rocks, the dependence of the mechanical properties of the deep Earth rocks on the temperature, pressure, chemical constitutes of the rocks and other factors is investigated in this paper. From the resent understanding to the mechanical properties of deep Earth rocks, the important role played by the rock rheology in the investigation of continental deformation processes is discussed in detail. The related research results indicate that in the case of using both the theoretical method and numerical simulation method to reveal the dynamic mechanism of the continental lithospheric deformation, the reasonable selection of the rheological model for the deep Earth rock is an important factor that must be taken into account.
