WU Genyao(Laboratory of Lithosphere Tectonic Evolution,Institute of Geology,Academia Sinica,Beijing,100029)  
Two generations of Tertiary thrusting-nappe structure can be distinguished in northwest Yunnan,China.The earlier one occurs in Eocene-Oligocene,the fractures being SN striking and west-dipping.It might be resulted from the Neotethyan closure and continentarc collision.Namely,the oceanic basin subducted eastwards, which gave rise to successively westward overthrusting in border area of Burma and India since Eocene;while the back-arc basin might be subducted westwards so that the successively eastward overthrusting occurred in northwest Yunnan area.The thrusts of later generation,occurring in late Miocene-early Plicoene,are W-E striking and north-dipping,which might be related to uplifting of the Qinghai-Xizang(Tibet)plateau. the overthrusting only developing along margins of the plateau.The synchronous thrusting-nappe structure,the thrusts being south-dipping,can be observed in Dege-Ganzi,northwest Sichuan where is north margin of the plateau.Both of the thrust systems in northwest Yunnan may be a limb of two generations of bilateral tectogenesis(kobergens).The Tertiary thrusting-nappe structures are characterized with leading imbricate fans.The more gentle dipping of frontal thrust results in occurring of nappe outliers.The continental crust is shortened and thickened owing to overlapping of the thrusted slabs.The back-thrusts can be observed in some positions.The thrusting-nappe structures control developing of the molasse basins,shallow-seated porphyries and salt-dome diapirs,which results in metallization in suitable structural localities, fot example,the Jinding lead- zinc mine of super-large scale.Comparing with the Indosinian nappe structures,the influenced depth of Himalayan one seems relatively shallow,and correspondingly,a smaller nappe distance.The western Yunnan belongs to the Sanjiang Indosinide;the Indosinian tectonic features are reformed by the Tertiary structures,and the latter itself is stamped by the neotectonics.
